Ned Mueller Life Drawing Workshop at UNCLAD 2009
Dates:
March 17, 18, and 19 (Tues-Thurs) from 10 am to 5 pm
Location: UNCLAD Art Show at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center in Stanwood, WA
Cost: $300 (includes model fees)

Ned’s three-day workshop will concentrate on the process of drawing the human figure, from quick gesture poses to longer 25 min. to 1 hour poses. Working in bistre conte on smooth newsprint, you’ll learn to get the proportions, movement, and tone by the judgement of your eye. 

Ned will also do a bonus portrait demo during the workshop. You’ll work hard, but have a lot of fun in the process.

Beginning Computer File Management for Artists
Instructor: Gayle Picken

Finally! A class for artists who need to learn the basics of working with files on computers. You’ll learn how to copy, move and rename your documents and organize them into folders so you can find them again. We’ll cover taking photos off of your camera and copying photos and documents onto a CD. No question is too silly in this supportive, non-threatening environment. We’ll make it fun!

Writing About Your Art

Long gone are the days when you could take a photo of your artwork and let it speak for itself. In addition to a strong Artist Statement and Bio, artists need to be comfortable writing press releases, descriptions for web sites, blogs, and other marketing materials. In this 3-hour workshop, we’ll cover writing for your audience and give you tips for creating compelling stories that make people want to look at your art.

The “Get your Web Site up and Running in 30 Days” series for artists

Class 1) Planning your Web Site
You know you need a web site … it’s been on your “to do” list for the past 3 years! But there are so many unknowns, you don’t know where to start. What’s a URL? Is hosting the same as a domain? In this 3-hour workshop, we’ll wade through the technology and jargon to give you a solid understanding of web site basics. We’ll cover the pros and cons of hiring a designer vs. creating a site yourself. Then we’ll get into specifics with the 8 Essential Decisions you must make before you start creating your web site.

Class 2) Build it! Do-it-yourself Web Sites for Artists
In this workshop, we’ll examine a great tool that allows artists to create and manage their own web sites. We’ll review the features and demonstrate how you can create an actual web site using this tool. At the end of this workshop you’ll be ready to go home and create your site.

Class 3) Promote It!
Now that your web site is up and running, it’s time to let people know about it! In this 3-hour workshop, you’ll learn about essential promotion techniques to make sure people can find your artwork on the web. We’ll cover search engine optimization, how to track your hits and what that really means, email marketing, offline guerilla techniques that really work, and places to promote your site online.
