| Collage with Dotti Burton
Date: Thursday & Friday, Feb. 23 & 24
Time: 10 am to 4 pm Cost: $60 to register, Plus $10 materials fee
Description: Join a workshop for artists of every level and even for those who claim that they can’t draw or paint. You can cut or tear!
Collage is a layering of ideas in addition to paper, fabric, glue, found objects and paint. Collage offers endless opportunities for individual expression. Each piece is a unique and creative piece of art. Artists at every level can learn how to make better paintings by practicing design, shape and line while creating collage art. And, non-artists discover that they can produce art. Everybody gains!
| Collage Workshop Materials List: Papers: I like to use torn pieces of white or off white Japanese papers like Sanwa Silk Unrgu, Natural Mulberry, or similar papers as I prefer to paint my papers rather than buying colored paper or using magazines. These papers can be ordered through Daniel Smith on line, www.danielsmith.com or at their Seattle or Belleview stores, or by calling 1-800- 426-7640. Also, local art stores can be called to see what papers they have for collage: Tri-Dee Arts in Mt. Vernon, 360-336-6131 (ask for student discount), Dakota Art in Mt. Vernon, 360-416-6556, and Brushstrokes Art supply in Smokey Point area, 360-658- 4044.
Or/And: Bring any paper material that you like. Painters may want to bring pictures that didn’t turn out and tear them into incredibly lovely pieces for collage. Photos, nice quality magazine pages, dried leaves, string, fabric, all can be used in collage. Heavy items would require a special bonding agent, however.
Paint: If you plan on working as I do, please bring either watercolor or acrylic paint or both. Bring a few of your painting brushes as well.
Supports: The material needs to be glued on a “support”. Heavy watercolor paper or mat board is preferred.
Glue: I use Matte Medium as it is archival, but you may use other brands that are not archival.
Brushes: You will need an old or inexpensive brush to apply the glue to your collage pieces. Not too small or too large.
Other: Please bring wax paper, scissors and various types of materials to embellish your work; bubble wrap, salt, colored pencils, stamps, etc. You will also need a roll of paper towels.
