Why Abstract Art?

Many people believe that all art is abstract in some way, because the artist does not paint reality completely, exactly.  Not even a camera does that!  Every artist, whether a novelist, painter, composer, photographer abstracts: which means that that artist chooses what to put into her/his art; chooses what to emphasize and how to
emphasize it.

Abstract artists can start from something perceived in nature;or they can start from a chance mark, or sound, or idea.  Artists then can work toward a representation of their reality; or their work can be totally non-representational.  Most abstract artists delight in their mediums--moving the paint or clay around; combining new sounds or colors.

What about the viewer--you!

You get to enjoy the shapes, compositions and colors of abstract  art.  But you also get to complete the art.  That means that you can decide what a work means, and how it makes you feel.

Abstract art can entertain a long time because the viewers will constantly see new aspects of and in the art.
