Bio: Paula Maratea Fuld is an artist currently working with
abstract imagery using plastics. Paula
has developed her artistic skills working in diverse locations, such as,
Virginia, California, Toronto, Alabama, and presently Washington.
Holding a bachelor’s degree in Painting and
Printmaking from Virginia
Commonwealth University
as well as a Baccalaureate degree in Information Systems, this artist is
able
to focus on spontaneous expression within the dramatic Euclidean
boundaries she
sets up as backgrounds for her pieces.
Paula has also attended post graduate studies in digital art at the
University of California,
Los Angeles. For the past six years Paula’s focus has been
on the reflective and refractive nature of light. She has been
experimenting with plastic
materials along with her passion for acrylic paint. When she is not
working in her studio Paula
may be found volunteering at the Bellevue
Arts Museum
or Gallery 110 in Seattle.
Statement: As an artist, my goal is to capture life’s spontaneous inescapability. Each
piece exhibits a raw visual emotional response. The first couple of
marks define each line and color without any preconceived arrangements
for the finished work.
My prolific imagination
produces original paintings and assemblies using a unique technique of
layering with plastic and paint. This allows me to study the reflective
and refractive nature of light. With color and innovative materials, I
depict life as an abstract thought. I apply
transparent layers of paint to create a space that engages the viewer.
Layering fused plastic designs onto the piece increases the illusion of
space. Geometric shapes or simple lines act as a control, setting
certain limitations, while the fused plastic compositions add the
unknown dimension of spontaneity. |
